Bayside Plasterboard

Plasterboard Supply to Wynnum

Coastal-appropriate lining supplies for Wynnum renovations and new builds

Wynnum sits on Moreton Bay and has the building characteristics typical of Brisbane's bayside suburbs, a mix of older post-war homes, character Queenslanders and waterfront properties, with ongoing renovation and improvement activity throughout. The proximity to salt water and the higher ambient humidity of a bayside location make material selection more important than in inland suburbs.

For Wynnum renovations, moisture-resistant plasterboard is the correct product for all wet area linings including bathrooms, laundries and kitchen splash areas. In homes close to the esplanade and waterfront, good ventilation and the right board selection in bathrooms helps prevent the moisture-related deterioration that older lining systems experience over time in this environment.

Our Morningside branch services Wynnum and the surrounding Bayside corridor including Manly, Tingalpa and Murarrie. We stock the full range of standard and moisture-resistant plasterboard, cornice, compounds and accessories suitable for both renovation and new construction in bayside conditions.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use moisture-resistant plasterboard throughout a coastal home in Wynnum?

NCC 2022 requires moisture-resistant plasterboard specifically in wet area rooms, bathrooms, laundries and kitchen splash areas. In other rooms of a coastal home, standard plasterboard with adequate ventilation is generally appropriate. If a specific area has a known moisture issue, MR board provides added protection, but it is not a substitute for fixing the underlying cause of the moisture.

What is the difference between standard and MR plasterboard?

Moisture-resistant plasterboard has a modified gypsum core and treated face paper that resist moisture absorption and remain more dimensionally stable in humid conditions. Standard board will deteriorate if exposed to ongoing moisture. MR board is identified by its green face, Knauf Moistureshield has a green face.

Do you deliver to Wynnum and Manly?

Yes. Our Morningside branch services the full Bayside corridor including Wynnum, Manly, Manly West, Lota and the surrounding area. Delivery can be arranged to residential addresses and active construction sites.

Can I tile over moisture-resistant plasterboard in a shower recess?

In a shower recess, you cannot tile directly over MR board without first applying a waterproofing membrane, AS 3740 requires it. Outside the shower recess in general bathroom areas, tiles can be applied directly to MR board using a suitable flexible adhesive. We can point you to the James Hardie Villaboard alternative if your application requires a tile substrate with higher dimensional stability.
