Plasterboard is composed of an inner layer of gypsum sandwiched between two layers of lining paper, lining board or glass-fibre layers.
Various additives in the gypsum and the weight and strength of the lining material give a board its particular characteristics (fire resistance, water-resistance, sound resistance, thermal insulated plasterboard etcetera). Gypsum board with one or a combination of these characteristics is often called high-performance plasterboard.
