Villaboard takes its own countersunk ribbed-head screw, not a plasterboard screw. 20mm suits 6mm sheet on steel, 30mm suits 6mm and 9mm on timber.

What is Villaboard used for?
Villaboard is the fibre cement wall lining that goes behind tiles in wet areas. It is used in shower recesses, fully tiled bathroom and laundry walls, commercial and healthcare bathrooms, and anywhere a wall carries large-format or heavy tile. It does not swell or soften when wet, so the tile bed stays flat and bonded.
Outside wet areas it turns up on garage and workshop walls, plant rooms, and as a hard-wearing lining in schools and back-of-house spaces where a painted plasterboard wall would be marked within a year. Is Villaboard 6mm or 9mm the right choice?
6mm is the standard thickness for tiled walls on framing at 450mm or 600mm centres and is what most residential wet areas use. 9mm is specified where the framing is wider, where heavy stone or large-format tile is going on, in commercial and healthcare wet areas that get washed down, and where the specification simply calls for it.
Both fix the same way and take the same screws. If the specification or the tiler names a thickness, follow it. If neither does, 6mm on standard framing is the usual answer for a domestic bathroom.
Villaboard or moisture resistant plasterboard?
Both are accepted water resistant substrates under the wet area standard once the waterproofing membrane is applied. Villaboard is the choice where the wall is fully tiled, where tile weight is high, and in commercial wet areas. Moisture resistant plasterboard is the usual lining for the painted walls of the same bathroom and for lightly tiled areas, because it joints and finishes like any other plasterboard.

Trade pricing moves with thickness, sheet size, quantity and whether you collect or we deliver. 9mm costs more per sheet than 6mm and a 3600mm sheet more than a 2400mm one, so the cheapest order is usually the sheet size that cuts with the least waste for your wall heights. What sizes does Villaboard come in?
We stock 6mm Villaboard in 1200mm and 1350mm widths and lengths from 1800mm to 4200mm, and 9mm in 1200mm and 1350mm widths from 2400mm to 3600mm. The table above is generated from our current stock list.
Can Villaboard be used in a shower?
Yes. It is the standard lining for shower recesses and fully tiled wet area walls. The waterproofing membrane still has to be applied over it to the heights the wet area standard calls for; Villaboard is the substrate, not the waterproofing.
What screws do I use for Villaboard?
Villaboard screws: a countersunk, ribbed-head fibre cement screw in 20mm or 30mm, needle point for timber and light steel, self drilling for heavier steel. Plasterboard screws will not seat properly in the harder sheet. We stock both loose and collated.
Can you paint Villaboard instead of tiling it?
Yes, with the joints set and the surface sealed as the manufacturer describes. It is common in garages and plant rooms. For a painted wet area wall that is not tiled, moisture resistant plasterboard is usually the easier finish.
Do you deliver Villaboard to site?
Yes, across Brisbane, the Redlands, Moreton Bay and the Gold Coast, or collect from any of the four yards. Fibre cement is heavier and more brittle at the corners than plasterboard, so tell us about site access and where the sheets need to land.
Is Villaboard the same as fibre cement sheet?
