Knauf Plasterboard Range Explained: Which Board Goes in Which Wall

Sheetrock One, Sheetrock Plus, Wetstop, Firestop, Soundstop, Impactstop and Multistop, what each is chosen for, and where to buy Knauf boards in South East Queensland.

Knauf makes a plasterboard for each job in a building. Sheetrock One is the standard wall and ceiling board, Sheetrock Plus adds sound, impact and water resistance, Wetstop suits wet areas, Firestop carries fire ratings, Soundstop reduces noise, Impactstop takes knocks and Multistop combines several of these. Bayside stocks the range at four South East Queensland yards.

The Knauf plasterboard range has a lot of names, and the names do not always say what a board does. This guide is the map. It sets out each line, what it is chosen for, and which of our guides goes into detail. The table comes from our current stock list. For the full types of plasterboard and how they compare, start with that page.

Knauf introduced Sheetrock Plus, Impactstop and Multistop One in 2025 as part of a simpler range, as reported by Building Connection. Some older names, such as the numbered Multistop boards and Soundstop, are still on our shelves. Knauf lists its boards on the Knauf Australia boards page.

Sheetrock One or Sheetrock Plus: which is the standard wall board?

Sheetrock One is the standard board for walls and ceilings. We stock it in 10mm and 13mm, in sheet lengths from 2400mm to 6000mm. Sheetrock Plus is a premium residential board that Knauf positions for sound, impact and water resistance in bathrooms, home theatres, hallways, nurseries and bedrooms. We stock it in 10mm. The choice between 10mm and 13mm is a question of span, framing and finish, and our guide to 10mm versus 13mm plasterboard sets out the trade-offs. Sheet sizes and weights are in the thickness and sheet size reference.

Which Knauf board suits wet areas? Wetstop and Fiberock Aqua Tough

Wetstop is Knauf’s water-resistant plasterboard. We stock it in 10mm and 13mm. Fiberock Aqua Tough is a second wet area option, stocked in 13mm and 16mm. Both are resistant to moisture, and neither replaces a waterproofing membrane behind tiles. Our guide to wet area and moisture-resistant plasterboard covers where each is used and what goes behind the tile.

Which Knauf board carries a fire rating? Firestop and Fire + Wetstop

Firestop is Knauf’s fire-resistant plasterboard, stocked in 13mm and 16mm. Fire + Wetstop in 13mm and 16mm adds moisture resistance for rated walls in wet areas. A rating belongs to the tested wall or ceiling system, not to the sheet alone, and the National Construction Code sets where a rating is required. The framing, the layers, the fixings and the detailing all count. Our guide to reading FRL ratings explains the three numbers on a system.

Which Knauf board reduces sound? Soundstop, Echostop and Stratopanel

Soundstop is the acoustic wall board, in 10mm and 13mm. Echostop and Stratopanel are perforated 12.5mm panels that absorb sound within a room, with square, round and slotted patterns, and Stratopanel has matching access panels. Soundstop works in walls between rooms. The perforated panels work on ceilings and walls inside a room. Neither does the job alone, because the wall system sets the result. Our guide to Rw ratings for party walls explains how.

Which Knauf board takes knocks? Impactstop

Impactstop is a 13mm board that Knauf describes as giving impact, fire and acoustic resistance, aimed at schools, classrooms, gyms and recreational facilities. We stock it in 1200mm and 1350mm widths, 3600mm long. Our guide to impact-resistant plasterboard for schools, hospitals and high-traffic walls covers where it earns its place and how it finishes.

What do the Multistop boards combine?

Multistop boards combine properties that otherwise come from separate boards. Knauf describes Multistop One as combining water, fire, acoustic and mould resistance with high impact performance, and Multistop One Hi as adding a continuous reinforced mesh in the board core for greater impact resistance. We stock both, and the numbered Multistop 4 and 5 lines with their Hi versions. What each number means is set out on the Knauf data sheet, so ask us for the sheet that matches the board on your drawings.

Which specialty boards does Knauf make?

Specialty lines we hold:
  • Flexi Board, 6.5mm, for curved walls and ceilings
  • Permarock, 12.5mm, in indoor and outdoor lines, with matching screws and joint filler
  • Shaftliner, 25mm, for shaft walls, used with Rondo shaftwall studs and track
  • X-Block, 13mm, a specialty board with its own jointing product

Specialty boards carry their own fixing and finishing rules, so check the data sheet before you order screws or compound.

Where can you buy Knauf plasterboard in South East Queensland?

Bayside Plasterboard stocks Knauf boards at four yards, each with its own page. Tell the trade counter the board, the thickness and the length, and add screws, compound and cornice to the same order. The Caboolture yard serves Moreton Bay and the northside, and our brands we stock page lists the other makers on the shelf.

A Knauf order is rarely board alone. The same drawings call for screws that suit the framing, jointing compound for each coat, cornice and the cement that fixes it, and beads for the corners. Naming the board, the thickness and the sheet length on the first call lets the trade counter match the rest. Where a wall carries a rating, give us the system name from the drawings so the fixings and the board come from the same document.

Sheet length matters on site as well. Longer sheets mean fewer joins on a ceiling and a longer carry up the stairs, so tell us about access. Our delivery and pick-up page sets out the options, and the yard hours are below.
